I'm an Iron Girl!

Last Saturday I participated in my first triathlon with two of my good friends, Niki and Lisa. After training all summer for this day, I really thought race day would never come and, to tell you the truth, somedays I prayed it wouldn't! But come it did, full of all kinds of emotions.

My awesome hubby and kids were able to come up with me and cheer me on. I think the kids were mostly excited about staying in a hotel for the night. What is so magical to kids about hotel rooms? My kids LOVE them!

The event: Iron Girl - 1/4 mile swim, 17.2 mile bike and 3.1 mile run all at Boulder Reservoir.

Before the race. Sweat free and full of energy.

The swim. What were my emotions during this part? Fear. Fear. Fear. Did I mention fear? I found out pretty quickly that wet suits and claustrophobia don't mix. Note to self: practice with a wet suit BEFORE the day of the race - it takes a little practice to be able to breath in one.

The Bike: triumph, joy, exuberance! I'm passing all of you that so quickly passed me in the deep open water where I nearly met my death! This was by far my favorite part of the race. Road bikes are sooo fun.

The Run: exhaustion. Please let this be over soon! After crossing the finish line I came in 461st out of 1,000 with a time of 1:54:15. Right above the average... good enough for my first time triathlon!

After the race. Sweaty and exhausted!

The perfect end to the race. You know this is true love. I was so drenched in sweat no one else would come closer than a high-five!
