Caleb was lucky enough to be the first one to catch a fish. He did it completely on his own, no help from dad at all. He was so completely tickled with himself. Sam couldn't help but to feel jealous and threw a small tantrum that "it's just not fair!"

As soon as Sam got over feeling sorry for himself, Josh threw the line out for him and, sure enough, life got better real fast - Sam pulled in an even bigger fish!

Sophie wanted to be a "fishing girl" too, but she soon realized its not all its cracked up to be. When her dad let her reel in a fish (the biggest of the day) she was heartbroken that her fish was not destined to be our new pet. She didn't take the gutting so well either. She quickly forgot about her temporary pet when we visited the nearby little old mining town Cripple Creek. Cold ice cream and a playground - that's much more up Sophie's alley.

We don't really care how dirty our kids get camping, as long as their hands are clean when we eat. Sophie has a particular skills for getting filthy, kind of like Pigpen from Peanuts. Despite all the dirt, Sophie taught us that it's never a bad time for a girl to touch up her makeup.

We decided that the family needed to "earn" the s'mores we had brought so we teamed up to shoot down Sprite cans. We each had two shots to knock down the cans. If we collectively knocked down all the cans each round, we got to have a piece of the s'mores: Round one was for gram crackers, two was for chocolate, three was marshmallows, and round 4 was for cooking! It went down to the last shot, but thanks to all of our sharp shooting we had ourselves a delicious treat that night (the fire ban was still in place, so we had to cook it over our stove).

Amazing post. Pictures look great and of course, so does Sopie.
Wow! Cripple Creek - great name.I hate to say this, but I think Sophie's make-up is a little crooked. Way to go fishermen and girl! (First fish - great entry for the Small Plates.)
